The idea of paid hospital parking is controversial ,In the UK,
there is currently a debate of hospital parking.
Should hospital parking be free?
A recent article in The Guardian revealed the controversy and the consequences of free parking at NHS HOSPITAL. When you first think about it, it makes sense to offer free parking to people who are ill or visiting the hospital. These people have gone through so much, why do we add another burden?
The idea and the problem that this article explains is that free parking for drivers doesn’t mean it’s free. It simply means it’s receiving subsidies, and this subsidy does not necessarily benefit those who need it most.
Another fundamental flaw with free parking is that it can burden the property more than it can benefit. Free parking space is often sufficient, and lack of funding means hospitals cannot invest in parking solutions that will benefit drivers. The time is key when visiting a hospital, the investment in parking signage and parking guidance system would significantly reduce the time to find a parking space .
Finally, we can all understand both sides of the dispute, but we have to look at our initial opinions and consider the best solutions for patients, hospital staff and medical systems.
